The AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting is an entry-level qualification ideal for learners looking to begin a career in accounting or finance. Whether you're new to the industry or looking to formalise your existing knowledge, this course provides a strong foundation in essential accounting principles and practices.

This qualification is highly valued by employers and equips you with the practical skills needed to work in entry-level finance roles, such as accounts assistant, finance administrator or payroll clerk. It also offers a clear progression route to higher-level AAT qualifications such as the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.

No previous accounting experience is required, making this course ideal for career changers, school leavers, or those returning to work. The content is delivered in a structured and supportive way to help build your confidence with numbers and financial processes.

Time: 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Duration: 34 weeks (2 classes per week)


What you will learn

The AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting consists of four mandatory units that cover a broad range of finance-related topics:

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping
  • Learn the basics of double entry bookkeeping, including how to process customer and supplier transactions and record business transactions accurately.

  • Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
  • Build on your understanding of bookkeeping by learning how to reconcile bank statements, correct errors and use control accounts and journals.

  • Principles of Costing
  • Gain an understanding of cost recording systems and how businesses use costing techniques to support decision making and budgeting.

  • The Business Environment
  • Explore the structure of organisations, key business functions and the importance of ethical behaviour and professional communication in the workplace.


    How you will be assessed

    Learners will sit computer based timed exams which will take place at the centre.


    Progression opportunities

    After completing the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting, you can progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting or choose the Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping. This qualification also prepares you for entry-level roles such as accounts assistant, finance administrator, or purchase ledger clerk.


    Entry requirements

    Before enroling you will need to complete a short assessment to make sure this course is suitable for you. The session will last for around 2 hours, you will watch a short presentation on our AAT offer, followed by a short assessment in English and Maths.
