The AAT Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping is a professional qualification aimed at learners who want to build on their existing knowledge of bookkeeping and progress to more advanced accounting tasks. This course is ideal for those who have completed AAT Level 2 or have equivalent experience and are looking to deepen their technical understanding, enhance their employability, or take the next step toward a career in finance.
This qualification demonstrates a high level of competence in bookkeeping and is valued by employers seeking individuals with practical and up-to-date financial skills. It’s also an excellent pathway for those considering self-employment as a bookkeeper or progressing onto higher-level AAT qualifications such as the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.
Learners should already have a solid foundation in bookkeeping principles before starting this course. The content is delivered in a clear and structured way, with plenty of support to help you build confidence as you develop more complex financial skills.

What you will learn
The purpose of the Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping is to ensure that you have the advanced bookkeeping skills necessary to work in a bookkeeping role or to progress to higher level accountancy. This qualification comprises two mandatory units:
This unit develops skills to prepare final accounts for sole traders and partnerships using a trial balance. You’ll strengthen your double-entry bookkeeping and manual transaction recording.
This unit covers tax processes affecting business operations, focusing on VAT and payroll. You’ll learn to prepare and submit VAT returns and ensure compliance with relevant laws.
How you will be assessed
Learners will sit computer based timed exams which will take place at the centre.
Progression opportunities
Upon successfully completing the AAT Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping, you’ll be qualified for more senior roles such as assistant accountant, bookkeeper, or finance officer. You may also choose to continue your studies with the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.
Entry requirements
Before enroling you will need to complete a short assessment to make sure this course is suitable for you. The session will last for around 2 hours, you will watch a short presentation on our AAT offer, followed by a short assessment in English and Maths.
