The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Cutting Hair is a practical qualification for anyone looking to develop professional cutting skills and start a career in hairdressing. This course focuses specifically on cutting and styling techniques for ladies' hair, making it ideal for those who want to specialise in this area of the industry.

Whether you’re starting out, returning to learning or building on existing salon experience, this course offers hands-on training in a supportive environment with access to industry-standard equipment and experienced tutors.

This qualification prepares individuals for entry-level positions in hairdressing or for further study in advanced hairdressing courses.

Time: 10m to 2pm
Duration: 10 weeks (1 class per week)


What you will learn

This course focuses on the practical and professional skills needed to cut and finish ladies' hair to a high standard. You will work on both mannequin heads and live models to build your confidence and precision throughout the course.You’ll cover the following key areas:This course covers a wide range of barbering techniques, client care and industry knowledge. Topics include:

  • Advise and consult with clients for hair services
  • Learn how to carry out effective consultations, understand client needs and recommend suitable services.

  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Develop the skills to prepare hair for cutting, using the correct products and techniques for different hair types and conditions.

  • Style and finish hair using a variety of techniques
  • Gain confidence in blow-drying, straightening and styling to create a professional finish tailored to each client.

  • Cut ladies' hair using a variety of techniques
  • Learn how to cut hair using club, point, and texturising techniques, and adapt styles to suit different face shapes and hair types.


    How you will be assessed

    Assessment is through a combination of practical observations, a portfolio of evidence and written exam.


    Progression opportunities

    You can progress to a Level 2 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing or apply for junior roles in salons to gain further experience in a professional setting. It can also serve as a foundation for further study at Level 3 apprenticeships.


    Entry requirements

    Before enroling you will need to complete a short English and Maths assessment to make sure this course is suitable for you.
