Entry Level 1–3 Functional Skills English

Entry Level Functional Skills in English are designed for learners developing basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. These levels focus on everyday communication, helping learners understand simple texts, use common vocabulary and produce clear written work with improving accuracy in spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Progression Opportunities:
These courses provide a foundation for further study, leading to Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills and eventually to GCSE or vocational training.

Functional Skills English – Level 1 and Level 2

Functional Skills English at Level 1 and Level 2 supports learners in developing essential communication skills for everyday life, work and study. Level 1 builds core abilities in reading, writing, speaking and listening through familiar, practical contexts ideal for those looking to gain confidence and prepare for further learning. Level 2 advances these skills, focusing on tasks such as interpreting complex texts, writing structured responses and engaging in discussions, making it suitable for learners ready to apply their English in professional or academic settings.
