Passport to Work Learner Spotlight: Donna
“I will be brutally honest when I signed up for the course I was skeptical that it would be your usual boring box ticking exercise. It was refreshing to meet my fellow students who came from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences who were just as nervous as me. The first topic, I did roll my eyes as what is there new that i can learn about effective communication skills. But it was good to refresh and look at things from a different perspective.
As the weeks progressed I felt challenged and looked forward to class, everything related to real life scenarios. I have not been employed for over 10 years due to family commitments so refocusing on my CV and presenting myself for work really gave me a boost of confidence of my capabilities. Which may not be paid work but skills and qualities that a future employer may be looking for. I thought it was very good that work experience was included in the course, even if it is not your chosen field. You still get the opportunity to learn something new and work as part of a team. It is down to you to make a good first impression and show initiative.
I believe that this course is a great first step if like me you are lacking confidence or direction. whether you are recently unemployed or have a large gap in employment. With the addition of learning Digital skills which we all need, combined with actual Work experience, I definitely recommend this course”.
